Dr. Robert Strickland
Dr. Robert Strickland is Administrative Director of over 344 magnet programs and is responsible for directing staff assigned to develop, implement, and monitor the Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant. Miami-Dade County Public Schools has a long history of developing, implementing, supporting, and sustaining magnet programs. This school year, over 144,000 of the district’s students have made an active choice in the school, academy, or program in which they are enrolled. These choices include magnet programs, charter schools, controlled open-enrollment schools, K-8 centers, satellite learning centers, senior high academies, and the Opportunity Scholarship Program.
Previously, Dr. Strickland was an Executive Director in the Office of Professional Development & Educational Services, and before that an Executive Director in the Division of Life Skills & Special Projects over the arts disciplines for M-DCPS.
Dr. Strickland is the co-author of a theatre textbook entitled, THEATRE: Art in Action that received a distinguished book award from the American Alliance for Theatre Education (AATE). In addition, Dr. Strickland is the author of a series of textbooks for teaching Shakespeare, entitled Shakespeare–ience. Dr. Strickland was awarded the Herbert A. Drew, Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence in Education from Nova Southeastern University and was honored with the 2005 Distinguished Career Award from the Florida Theatre Conference. In 2006, Dr. Strickland received the Founder’s Award from the Educational Theatre Association.
